Senior Recognition Ceremony honors Class of 2020

The seniors in the Class of 2020 were honored during the annual Senior Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, May 21, 2020. 608 seniors were recognized for completing career-technical education programs at Eastland Career Center, Fairfield Career Center, and in Satellite programs. Since the ceremony was not able to be held in-person, the district produced a special video ceremony that aired live on Facebook and at EFCTS2020.com, a special website built to honor the senior class. Each student was individually recognized by name in the 44-minute ceremony video, while they were honored a second time by their career-tech instructors in separate videos featured on the senior website.
Seniors contributed to the video by submitting their favorite photo candids of their times at EFCTS and also many submitted photos in their caps and gowns, which some were featured in the video, and all are featured on the Caps & Gowns page at EFCTS2020.com.
Special messages were delivered in the video from three seniors, Superintendent Bonnie Hopkins, EFCTS Board President Bill McGowan, ECC Director Jackie Kuffel, FCC Director Derek Roeth, and Satellite Director Tresa Durkin. More than a dozen seniors filmed and submitted cap and gown toss videos that are featured, as well.
“While we know an online ceremony can never replace the experience of an in-person recognition event, we are hopeful that this short film gave our seniors and their families an opportunity to celebrate in a safe, socially-distant, responsible way,” said Tresa Durkin, director of student services and public relations for the district.
