Broadband Infrastructure Training Program

Program Overview

The Broadband Infrastructure Training Program is a 215-clock hour certificate course funded through Ohio Means Jobs (OMJ) - Franklin County as an initiative of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation to expand broadband access in Ohio. The course combines classroom, laboratory, and hands-on learning experiences to prepare students for careers such as fiber optic cable installer, broadband equipment installation technician, fiber optic splicing technician trainee, and broadband equipment troubleshooter.

Interested students must qualify through OMJ - Franklin County to be eligible for enrollment, which may be fully-funded. It is currently being delivered as customized training.

With your newly acquired certifications, students can earn more and elevate within the industry faster than those with no training or experience. The top 10% in this industry make over $95,000!

Register for the first class at NO COST!

The first cohort of students for the Broadband Infrastructure Training Program is eligible to have their training provided free of charge through Jobs & Family Services of Franklin County (JFS), if the student qualifies. Funding is determined by financial and employment-based need and financial aid applications for this program are processed through JFS.

Program Details

This customized training program will span 12 weeks and provide students up to four certifications upon completion. In this program, students will learn:

  • How to use specialty broadband tools and test equipment,

  • Terminations for cable, phone, computer and network applications

  • Safe techniques for bucket trucks, ladders, highway safety, and confined work spaces

  • Broadband equipment installation for home, office, new construction, and more!

The Broadband Infrastructure Training program is approved by the Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) and is brought to you by the 5G Section Partnership that consists of The Ohio State University, Columbus State University, Jobs and Family Services - Franklin County, and the Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation.
